Dr. Heather McCurdy grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Her mother was a docent at the local city zoo, and Dr. McCurdy spent her childhood helping raise orphaned animals such as a jaguar cub named Rema, a lion cub named Togo, several mischievous raccoons, a squirrel or two, and even a clutch of mallard ducks. These orphaned animals added to the snakes, rabbits, cats and dogs that made up the family pets. Growing up in this environment made becoming a veterinarian a natural choice.
After graduating with a degree in Biology from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. McCurdy attended the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2001. Following an internship in small animal medicine and surgery in Rochester, New York and a stint working at Anne Arundel Veterinary Emergency clinic in Annapolis, Maryland, she started a family and entered general practice in the DC area.
She has lived in the Brookland neighborhood since 2002, where she and her husband raise their two daughters, one dog and two cats.
